March 6, 2009, Newsletter Issue #7: Exercise for Pets Is Important

Tip of the Week

So you're a couch potato and so is your pooch. You know you need to get fit, but your pet is just fine, right? Actually, exercise for pets is very important for their health. A fit pet is likely to have fewer medical problems than an overweight, out of shape pet.

Exercise can also be beneficial to a pet's mental health. For example, if a dog that is a bit high strung goes for a long daily walk with its owner, it gets one-on-one attention with its owner during the walk and burns off some excess energy. Usually, that slightly hyper pup will be much more confident and calm than it normally is when the walk is over.
