October 16, 2009, Newsletter Issue #39: Pet Grooming How To for Kittens

Tip of the Week

You just brought your new kitten home and you want to be sure you start it off right. While you aren't worried about grooming the short kitten coat it has now, you know that you will need to learn how to groom a cat before your kitten's adult coat grows in. Is there a pet grooming how to for cats? Should you be grooming your kitten now? Absolutely!

To help your cat become accustomed to the grooming process, you should handle it each day. Get it used to having its paws picked up, look into its ears, run your hands over its body and check its teeth. Doing these things now will make grooming so much easier.

In addition, you should familiarize your kitten with the brush or comb you plan to use on its adult coat. Let the kitten investigate the tool and then gently run it over the kitten's body as if you are playing a new game. By the time the kitten needs to be groomed on a daily basis, it will associate the grooming process with good things, like extra attention and games.
