December 25, 2009, Newsletter Issue #49: Pet Poison Control

Tip of the Week

You would never leave poisonous substances where your children could reach them, but you just realized that you didn't do the same with your pets. You need to work on pet poison control, and fast.

Keeping pets safe can be a challenge, especially in a home that hasn't been baby proofed. A determined dog or cat can get a lower kitchen cabinet open and can root out all the chemicals in it. Sharp teeth can easily puncture a plastic bottle that has a child proof lid. Consider moving any potentially poisonous substances to an upper cabinet or putting child proof latches on all cupboards that contain any toxic substances.
