August 7, 2009, Newsletter Issue #29: Pet Hazards in the Yard

Tip of the Week

Most pet owners take time to pet proof their homes. However, outdoor pet proofing rarely involves more than fencing an area for dogs to exercise in. Before you let your dog outside to romp, you may want to check for pet hazards in the yard.

Be sure all antifreeze, oil and other potentially toxic liquids are securely and safely stored in a shed or garage well out of the dog's reach. Make sure any fertilizers or weed killers have not been spread recently. Quickly walk around the yard to check for any litter someone has tossed over the fence. Balloons, cans, bottles, or plastic bags could prove fatal to your four legged friend. Prune any bushes to remove broken branches that are at the same height as your pet.
