What precautions should I take when traveling with my pet?

Pet Travel Precautions

Before traveling with your pet, you'll want to make sure you take certain precautions to keep him safe and comfortable. Here are some tips for keeping pets safe while traveling:

  • Verify that your pet's tags are accurate. This will come in handy if you need to board your pet at your destination. If you plan on flying with your pet, you will most likely need a certificate from your veterinarian no more than 10 days old.
  • Clipping your pet's nails will keep them from getting caught in the grooves of some airplanes and will make your pet easier to restrain if necessary.
  • Buy a sturdy, properly ventilated crate and allow ample time for your pet to become used to his new surroundings before taking him on the trip.
