August 20, 2010, Newsletter Issue #82: Best way to remove hair Matt's from dogs

Tip of the Week

Dogs with long hair like chow chows are notorious for getting matted hair if not sent to the groomer often. And lets face it that could get quite expensive. Using a clipper to remove matted dog hair is not a good idea. Doing so will only log up your hair trimmer.

How to remove the matted dog hair ? You want to have sharp scissors and cut the matted area out as close to the skin as possible but justs below the tangled matted  hair. Then you could gently brush the remaining part of the Matt out. And it best to cut and remove all matted hair then give the dog a good bath and brushing. You can purchase a doggy hair conditioner which will help to reduce matting of the dogs hair. And regular brush at least once a month depending on the type of dog you have.
